Eighteen months after I began my new quiet time habit, in the early spring of 2002, the controller at our dealership resigned to seek more income. Because this is such a key position, I was crushed! He was a Christian, good at his job, and we had a great relationship. I really questioned God as to why He would let this happen to me!
For the first time, I contracted with a headhunter to find a replacement. I expected it to take a long time to find someone suitable. I certainly did not expect to find a similar relationship with the next person in this position because I just thought that was too rare. Whether I was pessimistic or just trying to avoid disappointment, I do not know. I do know that I completely underestimated God!
Within just a few days of me contacting the search specialist, she called me to tell me she had a candidate. She felt she had to put us together because she knew we were both Christians and she thought that might be good common ground.
We interviewed together and we both saw an immediate connection. I shared with him what I had been going through spiritually for the past six months or so and he explained to me how his faith journey had brought him to that point.
“Though I had doubted Him, God proved He is faithful.”
It was clearly and absolutely a God-ordained meeting. You will learn, as we go through the next 10+ years of our journey, that God brought us together for too many reasons to count. In fact, he brought with him the next crucial part of my journey, less than 60 days after he started the job.
I cannot tell you how many times since then that I have been thankful we met. This man has been a critical part of the ministry in our business from the beginning! Though I had doubted Him, God proved He is faithful. Over and over again, despite my own repeated doubts, God has proven He is faithful.
